12 Hour Hospital Time
WARNING VERY GRAPHIC IN DETAIL! THOSE WITH WEAK STOMACHS DON'T READ!!!!
So, for my EMT class I had to work on the ER for 12 hours for training and an awesome experience. Well I did mine on Friday the 13th!!! lol.
Anyways, I go to check in and this man is being wheeled into the Cardiac Compromise room. The EMT I had to shadow said this was an awesome procedure I was going to be able to watch. The man had blood circulating into his chest area and so they had to insert a chest tube in to drain it out. I was so excited but very nervous. We got gloves on and started the procedure. I handed the doctor what he needed at first then was told to hold the patients arm up due to him not being able to because of the medications being issued. The Doctor was not a soft Doctor. He made the incision and started shoving the tube that was as large as a quarter into the side of this man's chest. Blood streamed out everywhere and they next thing I know I am waking up in the hall and the EMT is holding me up asking if I was alright. I had no idea what happened. I passed out lol!!!! I was so embarrassed!! It wasn't the blood that bothered me, it was how rough and gruesome it looked when the Doctor shoved that tube into him. And yes I am ok now. :)
So, I got to see the same procedure 4 hours later but from a different Doctor and was perfectly fine. lol. That day was amazing!!! I saw two catheters be inserted (gross), a hand laceration that the Doctor opened up to see if tendons were cut (really cool!!), a man have a stroke, one we called the tampon lady lol, long story if you want to know ask me sometime, abdominal pain, an older lady that had chest pain, a little boy that got bit by a dog in the face (sad), a suicidal teenager, and allot more!!! It was a good day but then when I pulled out of the hospital about 5 blocks down the transmission in my car decided it didn't want to work anymore. UGH. Oh well! Hope you enjoyed my little passing out story! lol. :)
